Our Initiatives: What We Do

As a newcomer to New Zealand, it takes time to find your feet and feel that familiarity you are used to. The Mid Canterbury TimeBank has certainly made me feel I belong to something- it is like my new family. Mercedes

Our Initiatives

Connect, Contribute, Belong.

Mid Canterbury TimeBank

In a TimeBank people connect, contribute and gain a sense of belonging as they give and receive help, exchanging time credits instead of money. Everyone's time and skills are valued equally.

Timebanking software enables members to see each others' requests and offers, contact each other and record exchanges. Timebankers contribute their time and skills when they can, receive support when they need it and help build a more connected community, one exchange at a time.

The TimeBank and Keep Learning initiatives both launched on October 1 2017.

Keep Learning Mid Canterbury

Each year Keep Learning Mid Canterbury organises a programme of about 40 adult & community education events, on a wide variety of topics.  These are open to anyone in the community. Topics have included budgeting, digital safety, flax weaving, cooking, astronomy, beekeeping, depression, te reo Māori, crafts, basic car maintenance and being Muslim in NZ.

We run a website www.keeplearningmc.nz which shows the events we organise but also ANY learning related event on in the district. It is free for groups, businesses or individuals to list their events.
